KARACHI: Darakhshan Police registered a case on Friday against Karachi Mayor Wasin Akhtar's son, Taimur Akhtar, for beating a youth on the New Year Eve. However, the matter was soon settled after the mayor paid a visit to the complainant, Hasnain Haider's house and offered reconciliation.

He acknowledged that his son was at fault and apologised to Hasnain's father on Taimur's behalf. He regretted that Hasnain was hurt. Hasnain's father accepted his apology and agreed to withdraw the case registered against Taimur.

The complainant, Hasnain Haider, has said in his statement to the police that he witnessed two black luxury cars approaching a fuel station in Defence Housing Authority, Phase VIII around 9:45 pm. Following this, a group of men, including security guards, got out of the cars and began firing into the air, he said, adding that they beat him and threatened him with murder when he tried to stop them. According to Haider, Taimur hit him with a gun's magazine and damaged his car. As a result, Haider sustained an eye injury, he said.

He claimed that he went to the Darakhshan Police Station immediately after the incident took place to report the matter. Police officials had issued a letter for him to get his medical examination done at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, he added.
