Import: Govt to ban harmful toys
Exporting countries would now be required to provide documentation certifying the products are not harmful.
ISLAMABAD:
The federal government has decided in principle to impose a ban on the import of harmful toys for infants and will only import when exporting countries provide a certificate, saying that the products are not harmful for children.
The government has also decided that a no-objection certificate will be necessary for import of bulletproof components, like windows, of vehicles.
According to a document, the Federal Board of Revenue has been advised to strictly monitor the toys being imported and clear only those toys that are not harmful for children. The document suggests that the import policy order should be amended and only toys meeting international standards should be allowed to be imported into Pakistan.
Furthermore, the federal government has suggested that an NOC from the interior ministry should be made mandatory for the import of bulletproof components of vehicles as is done in the case of bulletproof vehicles, and there should be amendments in the import policy order in this regard.
