Law ministry sends NAB Amendment Ordinance 2019 proposal to PM
Proposed ordinance says property of government employees cannot be frozen unless ordered by the court
ISLAMABAD:
The Ministry of Law and Justice on Friday sent the National Accountability Bureau Amendment Ordinance 2019 proposal to the Prime Minister’s Office, sources told Express News.
The summary is said to be presented at the next cabinet meeting for approval. After approval, the ordinance will be presented to President Arif Alvi.
According to the proposed ordinance, NAB will be barred from taking action against government employees in case of departmental deficiencies.
It also states that the property of government employees cannot be frozen unless ordered by the court and if the NAB investigation is incomplete after three months, the arrested public servant is entitled to bail.

Furthermore, NAB may take action against corruption of over 500 million rupees.
According to the proposed ordinance, NAB’s jurisdiction will be curtailed as its discretion will be replaced by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), and Building Control Authorities over issues of tax, stock exchange and initial public offerings (IPO).
NAB will also take guidance from fixed rates of FBR or district collectors for determining the value of the land.
