Kriti Sanon just delivered a smashing performance as Parvati Bai in Ashutosh Gowariker's Panipat, and is now all set to branch out from here onto more promising roles.

While the movie itself performed meagerly at best, garnering mixed reviews from critics and cinema-goers alike, Kriti's performance was lauded and the actor is all smiles.

“I am a Punjabi girl and had never imagined myself as a Maharashtrian, but the response has been so overwhelming," said Sanon while talking to The Deccan Chronicle.

The star has delivered a number of hits through the course of her career, however, majority of her roles have been more or less the same, and Sanon is well aware of that. "I feel that now I want to step out of my comfort zone a lot more often,” she expressed, acknowledging how Parvati Bai was her first role in a period drama.

The Bareilly Ki Barfi actor could hardly contain her excitement following all the praise for her recent role, and went on to say, "I am extremely happy because as an actor when your work gets noticed and appreciated, it encourages and motivates you to work harder."

"I want to do more different roles, and for me, Panipat was something completely new and different. I want to play a character which I can’t imagine myself playing. I am in search of such characters,” said Sanon, who will next be seen in Mimi, a film that revolves around the subject of surrogacy.

Panipat itself was mired in controversy before its release; Jat groups raised hell in protests against the film's portrayal of Bharatpur's Maharaja Surajmal. The producers were forced to omit certain scenes from the final cut before moving it to the censor board for screening.

Sanon made her entry in Bollywood in 2014 with the film Heropanti that earned her a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She followed that hit with movies like Dilwale, Kalank, Stree, Raabta, Housefull 4, Bareilly ki Barfi and now Panipat.
