Ever since the posters of the ambitious Panipat were released, the internet has been sharing extreme reactions to it. As always, some have commended the film's lavish outlook but trolls have been having a field day too, with jibes at lead actor Arjun Kapoor.

Panipat sees Kapoor plays Sadashivrao Bhau, the Maratha warrior who fought Afghan invader Ahmad Shah Abdali in the Battle of Panipat. It is undoubtedly the role of a lifetime for him and the actor feels it is "unfair" for people to joke about real-life heroes and martyrs who laid their lives down for their countries.

"Everybody gets trolled," Times of India quoted Kapoor as saying. "I think now, it has become habitual for people to be negative and bitter, probably because of whatever they might be dealing with in their personal lives. It reflects badly on the way they have been brought up or the way they are."

The 2 States star personally doesn't mind being trolled and even makes fun of himself on several occasions. But he finds it unacceptable that people make memes out of historical characters and heroes. "I don't mind if people make fun of me," Kapoor said. "But if you are making fun of Panipat, you are making fun of people who have sacrificed themselves for India. See, I am used to people making fun of me. But we should not forget the sacrifices that these men made."

Kapoor also spoke of how netizens are comparing the film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani. He said, "There are so many stories belonging to that era. Should we stop making such films then? Just because we have seen something that resonated with us two years back, that doesn't mean any other story from that era cannot be made into a film."

He continued, "Today, it has become a little derogatory and negative, and we are insensitive towards each other. The way they write about us...it's as if we are not human beings!"

Panipat, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, also stars Kriti Sanon, Sanjay Dutt, Zeenat Aman and Padmini Kolhapure in the lead roles. The film hits theatres on December 6. Watch the trailer below:
