Last night, Karachi recorded its coldest night of the ongoing winter season, with the minimum temperature dropping to 8.5°C, a two-degree drop compared to the previous day.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that the city will experience cold and dry weather for the next 24 hours.
The PMD warned that the chill could feel 2-4°C colder due to icy winds blowing across the region. The temperature is expected to remain in the single digits, with a low of 8°C and a maximum of 25°C in the coming day.
Severe cold continues to grip the province, particularly in the rural areas of Sindh, where regions such as Tharparkar, as well as northeastern and northwestern parts of Balochistan, remain affected by the frigid winds.
The central weather station recorded a minimum temperature of 8.5°C, while the temperature in Gulistan-e-Johar dropped to 6.5°C.
Other areas also reported lower temperatures: Jinnah Terminal recorded 8°C, Shahrah-e-Faisal 8.5°C, Maripur 9°C, and Bin Qasim 9.7°C.
Despite the chill, the PMD stated that the city did not break its previous temperature record. The coldest recorded night in Karachi occurred on 14 December 1986 when the minimum temperature dropped to 1.3°C. On Saturday, the winds in the city blew at a speed of 20 km/h.
In rural districts, the night temperature may fall further by 3-5°C, while dense fog is expected in the upper and central regions during the morning hours.
