Acquitted MPA requests restoration to assembly
Former MPA of PML-N Shumaila Rana submitted an application to restore her to the assembly despite credit card case.
Former MPA of PML-N Shumaila Rana submitted an application to the Punjab Assembly speaker for her restoration as an assembly member on Monday.
Rana in her application said that she resigned from the seat due to intense pressure in the credit card case but now that the court has acquitted her she should be restored as a member of the assembly.
Sources said that speaker cannot restore any MPA who had resigned. Only the court or the election commission has the power to do that.
Sources also revealed that Shumaila Rana did not mention the reason while resigning.
Earlier in July, 2009, the former MPA had been accused of using stolen credit cards for purchases worth Rs80,000. The case was filed by the owner of the credit cards, Zaira Malik, who claimed that Rana had stolen the two cards from her bag at a health club.
Rana was allegedly seen in a CCTV footage using the credit cards at a jewelry shop.
