ISLAMABAD: Two suspects have been held in connection with the Major Muhammad Laraib murder case, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference at Rescue 15 along with DIG (Operations) Waqaruddin Syed, the IGP said that Major Laraib was shot dead by two unidentified assailants last month while he was sitting in the public park in Sector G-10.

The suspects responsible had been arrested following the hard work of two police investigation teams working under the supervision of DIG operations.

Islamabad IGP rejected social media posts regarding increase in crime rate in sectors F-10 and F-11 and said that a campaign was initiated against Islamabad police which was untrue.

Effective policing measures in Islamabad have resulted in a significant decline of crime in the city. Due to successful policing in these areas, four criminal gangs comprising 16 suspects had recently been arrested from these areas that were being investigated.

He further mentioned that suspects involved in murder of a Capital Development Authority (CDA) official during a mobile snatching attempt in Aabpara area had been arrested.

IGP Zulfiqar said that Islamabad had been declared as a safe city of Pakistan as per World Crime Index which was due to the hard work and professional attitude of each policeman from the level of constable to DIG.

He said that United Nations (UN) declared Islamabad earlier as family station for its staff while the crime rate had declined significantly in the capital due to effective policing.

The IGP said that the ‘free registration of crime’ policy was being implemented and several police officials had to face disciplinary action over delay in registration of cases.

He also appreciated the performance of Islamabad police during Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal (JUI-F) sit-in and visit of British Royal Couple to Islamabad.

The IGP informed that British High Commission had written a letter to him and thanked Islamabad Police for effective security measures during this visit.

The IGP also welcomed the Sri Lankan cricket team for its upcoming visit to Pakistan and said that effective measures would be taken for its security. The IGP said that all units of Islamabad Police including Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), Safe City, Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) and Crime Investigation Department (CID) were working efficiently.
