Balkrishna Chaubey, a 55-year-old dacoit, and his band of outlaws had been robbing unsuspecting villagers in the Chhatarpur Khajuraho area for the last few years. Despite several attempts made by the state’s police, the gang remained off reach as they would slip into Uttar Pradesh after committing the crime.
Chaubey had been absconding for several months and while in hiding sent out a message to some acquaintances to look for a bride for him, according to a Khaleej Times report.

Sub-inspector Madhavi Agnihotri, in charge of Garroli chowki of Chhatarpur Naugaon block, was assigned the task to bring him to book. Madhvi, who is in her thirties, came up with a brilliant idea to nab the wanted criminal.
She sent him her old photograph along with a matrimonial proposal through informers. After few written exchanges, Chaubey agreed to meet Madhavi in a UP village, bordering Naogaon police station area.
The smart police officer signaled her team to catch the criminal shortly after he arrived at the date. He was taken into custody before he could reach out to his locally made pistol.
Chaubey was later sent to jail on charges of murder and robbery.
