ISLAMABAD: As part of the 16-Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, a 10-day Human Rights Reel Film Festival will open from Sunday. This will be the fifth iteration of the festival.

The festival is being organised by the European Union (EU) Delegation to Pakistan, in partnership with the United Nations and 16 EU and UN member states, as well as educational and cultural institutions across Pakistan.

"Building on past experience, the fifth anniversary of the human rights festival seeks to highlight the importance of multilateralism, the universality of human rights and the importance of global cooperation to ensure that protection of human rights and respect for human dignity is a reality for all people everywhere,” said European Union (EU) Ambassador Androulla Kaminara.

‘The festival also aims to create cross-cultural understanding and stimulate discussions on global human rights issues with students,” Kaminara added.

The festival will conclude on December 10, the World Human Rights Day which marks the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. During the festival, some 29 award-winning films and documentaries from around the world on human rights issues such as freedom of expression, gender equality, access to justice, minority rights and death penalty among others will be screened.

The festival will be launched at the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) with the documentary ‘A Dark Place’.
