Arrested MNA wrested from police custody

Eye witnesses say two policemen were injured in the attack.

ISLAMABAD: An opposition lawmaker was wrested from police custody by his supporters within hours of his arrest on Friday.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan, who is facing multi-billion land scam charges in connection with the National Police Foundation case, was being taken to the Shalimar police station when his supporters attacked the police, wrested him from custody and fled the scene.

Eye witnesses said that two policemen were injured in the attack while six alleged attackers have been detained by the police.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik took notice of the incident and ordered suspension and arrest of the Margalla police station’s SP Nadeem Hussain and Shalimar police station’s SHO Fayyaz Tanoli. He also ordered the police to arrest the MNA and all others involved in the attack on the police.
