Express reporter Mureeb Mohmand passes away

He was laid to rest in the Haleemzai area of Shabqadar Charsadda

PESHAWAR: Senior educationist and journalist from the Mohmand tribal district Mureeb Mohmand passed away at the age of 48 at the Lady Reading Hospital on Monday night.

Mureeb had suffered complications after a gall bladder surgery at LRH. He was laid to rest in the Haleemzai area of Shabqadar Charsadda.

He leaves behind a widow, three sons and two daughters. Mureeb was currently associated with the Express Media group and was reporting on the war on terror, internally displaced people, besides local social and political issues.

Having lived close to Pak-Afghan border, he was a source of information for the journalists across the country on the issues and affairs of Afghanistan and the erstwhile tribal areas.

He started his journalistic carrier from the leading Urdu daily Mashriq as contributor from his native tribal district and had been reporting during the Taliban regime, post-Taliban era, US invasion on the Afghanistan for the Daily Mashriq.

Later, he was associated with the Al-Akhbar, another Urdu daily. He facilitated several K-P based journalists during the TTP era in the now merged area.

Mureeb was reporting for the NNI Peshawar office when Saleem Safi was the editor in Peshawar office. He remained affiliated with the international and national journalistic bodies.

Lastly he associated with The Express Tribune daily while he also contributed to Daily Express and Express TV.

Ahmedul Haq, a journalist from Mohmand, said Mureeb was a dedicated teacher in the Mohmand tribal district for years, while also a socially active journalist, while we also discourage him for using all media forums against the misuse of government funds, Taliban atrocities and also highlighting the social issue in the merged and settled district.
