Three citizens injured in separate robbery bids

Police are just silent spectators, robbers rob whenever and wherever they want to and get away, says protester

KARACHI: At least three people were injured in separate robbery attempts in Surjani Town, Bhens Colony and Korangi Mehran Town on Sunday and Monday.

A woman was injured by robbers as she attempted to resist a robbery bid in Surjani Town Sector 4 B. The injured, who was later identified as 55-year-old Khursheed Bano, was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

SHO Surjani Town, Iftekhar Ahmed said that the woman was seeing off her children from the gate of her house for school when the robbers tried to snatch her mobile phone. When she put up a struggle, the robbers shot at her. The bullet hit the ground and she was injured by the shrapnel of the floor. She was discharged from the hospital after receiving first aid.

In a separate incident, a man was shot and injured by robbers on resisting a robbery attempt in the jurisdiction of Sukhan Police Station, Bhains Colony block 9. The injured was identified as 47-year-old Anwar, who was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

The residents came out on the streets to protest against the incident. “Police are just silent spectators, robbers rob whenever and wherever they want to and get away,” said one of the protesters.

SHO Adeel Shah said that the robbers started looting while a truck loaded with straws was being unloaded in Bhains Colony Number 9. They snatched cash and mobile phones from two individuals and also shot and injured a person for resisting the robbery bid. He added that police are investigating the incident.

Moreover, a shopkeeper at a milk shop in Mehran Town in Korangi Industrial Area was shot and injured by robbers on resisting a robbery attempt. The injured was shifted to the JPMC, where he was identified as 24-year-old Muhammad Farhan.
