Land Purchase Scam: Warraich withdraws travel ban plea

LAHORE: Justice Umar Ata Bandial of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday dismissed as withdrawn a petition by Habibullah Warraich, an accused in the National Insurance Corporation Ltd (NICL) scam, requesting for release of his passport and removal of his name from the exit control list (ECL). Warraich is presently on bail. He had filed the petition to seek court directions to the federal government to remove his name from the ECL as he wanted to go aboard with his wife for medical treatment. Warraich and his wife appeared before the court on Wednesday and withdrew the petition. According to the prosecution, Warraich, his son Mohsin and Muhammad Maalick, the manager of a company owned by MPA Moonis Elahi, siphoned NICL funds in fraudulent land purchase. Warraich is charged with getting Rs1.68 billion from the transactions.
