LAHORE: To recruit 145 employees, the Punjab Archaeology Department has forwarded a summary to the Punjab Finance Department after receiving approval from the provincial chief secretary.

After the 18th Amendment, the administrative authority was given to the provincial government. Therefore, taking this into the account, it is necessary for the Punjab Archaeology Department to take approval from the finance division to recruit staff.

In the past, the finance department had rejected the summary several times due to the lack of funds which affected the restoration work of historic buildings and gardens. Now since funds are available, the process of recruitment will start from the next month and the pace of work will be improved.

Sources said that departmental proceedings were slow due to vacant posts from Grade 1 to Grade 7. The shortage of staff compels existing employees to handle more than one employee’s work responsibilities. They added that a committee comprising archaeologists and secretariat "AGF" officials will send the summary to the Punjab Finance Department after receiving the approval from the chief secretary. After the approval, the summary will be sent to the Punjab Finance Department for further approval. From next month, recruitment will be started after funding is approved.

According to the qualifications, the applications will be collected and the process of hiring will take place officially. Due to the shortage of staff, the Punjab Archaeology Department was facing severe difficulties. However, now the clerks, deputy messengers and security guards will be recruited for the office and this will lead to significant improvement.
