KARACHI:

Police arrested a Canadian national, Bernett Nathaniel and his wife from Soldier Bazaar’s Mill Street on Tuesday for overstaying.

Soldier Bazaar police station’s investigation officer Mohammad Aslam told The Express Tribune that Nathaniel had arrived in the country three months back. His visa expired a week ago. The 40-year-old was found loitering under “suspicious circumstances” and was stopped by a police official.

Nathaniel told the police that he was working for a non-governmental organisation. Aslam said the police and the intelligence agencies will be questioning him.

A First Information Report No. 65 has been lodged under the Foreign Act. A Canadian consulate official in Karachi said that the office was looking into the case, but would not be able to divulge any other information. An official from the Canadian High Commission in Islamabad, Andrew Ng, said that they were aware of this and the commission is providing consular service as required.
