ISLAMABAD: Standing Committee on House and Library expressed its concern over the inordinate delay in handing over the possession of plots to the employees of National Assembly Secretariat by the management of Federal Government Employees Cooperative Housing Society (FGECHS).

The committee termed it a breach of joint venture contractual obligation by the management of the society. The committee met under the chairpersonship of MNA Kishwer Zahra at the Parliament House on Monday.

The committee while discussing the issue of delay in handing over possession of plots was of the view that despite having deposited money with FGECHS since  2014, the developed plots had not been handed to the allotees.

The committee directed President FGECHS to immediately honour the contractual obligation.

In this connection, as result of consistent efforts of the CDA management, possession of 59 apartments, constructed by Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) in Sector G-11/3 worth around Rs1 billion has been handed over to the CDA, the statement said.

According to the authority, a total of 96 flats were constructed in sector G-11/3 by the FGEHA, out of these 36 were sold by the FGEHA while 60 were to be handed over to CDA.

The transfer of possession of the said apartments remained pending in the past due to lack of consensus on different issues between CDA and FGEHA and no decision in this regard could be taken. However, the incumbent management in line with its efforts to make the authority financially sustainable took up the matter. In this connection, the meeting was also held between chairman CDA and DG FGEHA. As a result of the efforts, a consensus was reached that 60 flats would be handed over to CDA in line with the actual spirit of the project.

As a result of serious and consistent efforts, possession of 59 flats in sector G-11/3 constructed by FGEHA was handed over to CDA in a ceremony here on Friday. The ceremony was attended by the Members National Assembly from Islamabad, Asad Umer and Ali Nawaz Awan. CDA director maintenance officially took possession of the 59 flats, in the presence of both the MNAs, Member Engineering and officers of FGEHA. However, possession of the remaining one apartment will be also handed over to CDA in the next few days. These apartments are located at a prime location and it is expected that this step will help enhance the revenue of the authority. Agencies
