Education minister says not to worry over change of ‘masters’

KARACHI:

Amid the panic over the new commissioner system, the education minister assured his department that the EDOs will work with the directorate until the new posts are filled according to seniority.

No one would be fired because of political affiliations, explained Pir Mazharul Haq, the senior provincial minister for education and literacy, on Monday.

He was at the SEF Head Office located at Boat Basin. Corrupt officials would be removed though.

Thus, it was with assurances that the department made the change. Education is now no longer controlled by the city government. It is now the responsibility of the provincial government’s administration.

Five regional education managers will be appointed in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and Mirpurkhas. “There will be five primary and five secondary directorates functioning in five demarcated divisions of the province,” he said.

The department also plans to take over the Matric and Intermediate boards (which were previously under the governor) after which the education department will get complete authority, he added.

The control authority bill of the boards was passed three years ago, but was pending due to the policy of reconciliation. “We plan to have the bill passed in the coming session of the Sindh Assembly on July 13,” he said.

The directorates of college education, primary school, secondary and higher secondary school education, go back to their status on August 5, 2001.

Under local government, all schools with the district administrations were in a pathetic condition - 7,700 closed.

“All these matters will be tackled with full responsibility and honesty,” he assured, adding that all of this would bring back accountability to the department.

Foreign aid

The minister met Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Economic Affairs Secretary Wajid Rana and Sindh Education Secretary Waseem Ursani to discuss division of international USAID.

The department announced that 50 more schools will be built, increasing the total number to 250 in the province, under the programme.

They will be built in Dadu, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Shikarpur and Kashmore.

What a great Pir Mazhar ul Haq, he cannot even control the Private School Management under his nose, that are charging huges fees, the "Free" June and July fees and annual subscription from the poor parents of the children, so what else he can do for the betterment of the people.
