Sindh Rangers’ powers extended for 90 days

KARACHI: The provincial home department has extended the policing powers of Rangers for 90 days in Karachi. According to the official notification issued by the home department on Saturday, Rangers' official powers, which were to come to an end on October 4, 2019, have been given an extension till January 1, 2020. Pakistan Rangers were given law-enforcement powers under Section 4(2) of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997. Under this section, Rangers are granted policing powers after every three months to conduct raids and carry out arrests during targeted operations against criminal elements in Sindh, in order to maintain peace and security in Karachi.
