‘Karo-kari’ dispute: FIR filed against ‘illegal jirga’
The police have launched an investigation into the case.
SHIKARPUR:
Police have registered an FIR against jirga holders and other men involved in a dispute over ‘Karo-Kari’. Chak Police registered an FIR against the men on charges of holding an illegal jirga. The jirga was allegedly held at the residence of a local landlord. According to the jirga’s verdict, Rs138, 000 were imposed as fine on the accused party and death punishment was awarded to one Sumaira, daughter of Akbar Mirani, who was declared ‘Kari’ for allegedly having an ‘illicit relationship’ with relative Seengar Ali alias Saleem Mirani. It may be mentioned that following media reports, the jirga changed its ruling. The police have launched an investigation into the case.
