HARIPUR:

Two senior lawyers including a woman accused another lawyer and his assistants of thrashing them in the courtroom.

According to details, Raja Muhammad Akhtar Satti and Khairun Nisa, two senior lawyers who practice in Taxila, filed an application in the Haripur District and Session Court.

They said they had appeared before the court of Judicial Magistrate Rashid Rauf Swati in a defamation suit, Muhammad Yousaf vs Muhammad Saeed. During the hearing, the opposing counsel Tahir Kheli entered into an altercation with them when their witnesses were giving their statements.

They said Kheli used abusive language against Nisa and her co-counsel during the incident, and they were later beaten with sticks and dragged out of the court with the help of junior lawyers and clerks, they explained.

“We requested the judge to stop the proceedings as the witnesses were terrified and could not record their statements, however, the judge did not listen to us,” they maintained.

The complainants also accused Kheli of tearing Satti’s clothes, who also lost Rs10,000 during the scuffle. They said Kheli had not only insulted them and their profession, but had also defiled the sanctity of the court.

The court, after listening to their statements, adjourned the hearing till July 16, when both parties would reappear in the court.

Later, Satti and Nisa requested Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan to take action against Kheli for his behaviour.
