Protest: Transporters demand new roads

RATODERO:

Transporters from the Bakrani, Badah and Dokri towns protested at Hatti and demanded that the road from Larkana for Moen jo Daro be completed.

They said that their vehicles were wearing down and depreciating because the roads were potholed and rough. However, the National Highway Authority said that they had demanded over Rs9.1 billion  from the federal government in order to complete construction on seven road sector projects for Larkana and Kamber-Shahdadkot districts.

These road sector projects, which started in June and July 2009 and were scheduled to be completed by June-July 2010, have been shelved because the funds have not been released. The Sindh government has set aside Rs11 billion for roads this year.
