Heavy rains forecast for Karachi from Friday

This is the second monsoon entering Sindh which has already created low air pressure in the Northern Bay of Bengal

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted heavy and moderate rains in the city from Friday to Monday [August 9 to 12], while also warning about the risk of urban flooding in the metropolis and other cities of the province.

The advisory issued by the PMD on Tuesday states that if the intensity of the current system continues to persist, more rains will hit Karachi and other districts of Sindh. This is the second monsoon system entering Sindh which has already created low air pressure in the Northern Bay of Bengal and will reach Indian Gujarat by August 9. The system is forecast to enter Sindh on Friday evening.

Downpour is expected across Sindh province, including Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad and Thatta divisions. The Met office also predicts urban flooding in Karachi, Hyderabad and Thatta. It says the system will expectedly bring strong winds.
