Cut in number of scholarships

Scholarships help students with small means to pursue further studies

Letter August 03, 2019

LAHORE: The directive by the Higher Education Commission to reduce the number of MPhil and PhD scholarships has given a rude shock to students. It has devastated hopes of many who intend to pursue higher studies in the country and abroad.

The Punjab government also intends to reduce the number of Punjab Education Endowment Fund scholarships from 884 to 52. HEC scholarships have already been reduced from 601 to 157.

Scholarships help students with small means to pursue further studies. Scholarships are also an investment in the future of the nation.

I request the prime minister to restore the former number of PhD scholarships.
