Washington State Trooper Clint Thompson was driving south of Seattle and west of Tacoma when he saw the single propeller KR2 flying towards the roadway.

In a moment of heroic bravery, Thompson turned his emergency lights on to block the traffic and helped the aircraft land safely.

"Trooper Thompson just happened to be in the right place at the right time and witnessed the plane make an emergency landing," tweeted Washington State Patrol spokesperson Johnna Batiste.

In Thompson's 21 years as a trooper, it was the first time he had assisted a plane landing on a roadway.

"It's a good day to be alive," said Pilot David Acklam, jumping out of the plane with Thompson's help.

Officials confirmed no one was injured in the incident.
