Even when we're married, people won't leave us alone: Iqra Aziz on her engagement
Actor talks overcoming the 'modesty brigade' and how Yasir helped her gain confidence
It's the story that went viral last week. Unless you've been living on another planet, most of us would know about Yasir Hussain proposing to Iqra Aziz in an overt display of affection at this year's Lux Style Awards.
Since then, the lovebirds have been getting mixed reactions about their very public announcement which took social media by storm.
The couple has been criticised for their ‘unnecessary PDA’ after Iqra said yes to Yasir’s proposal at the award show. Days after, she has posted a reply on Instagram to all the negative comments she has been receiving since last week.
“My man expressed his love in front of the world which takes a lot of guts and I am blissful, you’r my zing. Thank you for being so expressive, generous, caring, loving, chivalrous, realistic and noble. I love you… X,” she wrote in a long Instagram post showing off her engagement ring.

Now, Iqra has talked exclusively to BBC Asian Network about her reaction towards her engagement, why its wasn't so 'cliché' and how Yasir helped her gain confidence.
Replying to host Haroon Rashid on his question that's on everyone's minds, Iqra said, "I wasn't into that because I was already emotional with the awards and everything so I didn't understand what was happening at the time, I was shocked."
Haroon then hinted at the fact that many people found the couple's proposal move like being an exhibitionist. "You're putting yourself on a public platform and it's kind of taking advantage of all the lights, camera's and people's attention."
Iqra didn't really reply directly to the question and instead discussed her feelings for Yasir overtaking everything else that was happening around her.
"I forgot who was around me, I forgot where I am. I was just into him, what he's doing and what he is saying to me and how he is expressing his feeling," Iqra said during the interview.
Iqra Aziz, Yasir Hussain respond to criticism over public proposal
As for her reaction to people's negative comments over the proposal, the Suno Chanda award-winning actor confirmed she's not phased. "Even when we'll be married, I know they won't leave us alone."
Iqra admitted she was an introvert before meeting her fiancee, who has helped her gain confidence. "When I met Yasir I learned so much, at the time of the red carpet I was really enjoying it because I felt on top of the world and on top of my game," the actor said.
We guess she had every right to feel confident at this year's LSA, since she nabbed two awards. The highly acclaimed actor added another feather in her already illustrious cap by bagging the prestigious Best Actress TV award.

According to Iqra, her family have been nothing but supportive of her proposal and career. Since her father passed away a few years ago and is raised in a family of only females, they have always "gone their own way" against "mainstream society."
"They know all about my relationship and they're very happy and my mother actually cried, because she loves Yasir more than me," she joked.
