IMF report exposed govt ‘lies’: Shehbaz
Says ‘fascist’ govt imposing burden of taxes worth 1.6 trillion on people
ISLAMABAD:
President Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif has said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) report has revealed the Niazi government ‘lied with the parliament and people’.
“The government lied in the parliament that it had levied taxes of Rs500 billion but the IMF report divulged that taxes of Rs750 billion had been imposed.”
Expressing dismay over the IMF report, the opposition leader said that the ‘fascist government’ was imposing a burden of record taxes worth 1.6 trillion on the people.
“The additional Rs90 billion taxes will be collected from the salaried class and traders which is economic terrorism.”
Shehbaz said that with the addition of new taxes, the burden of property taxes will increase by Rs45 billion.
Taking a jibe at the PTI government, the opposition leader noted, “New houses will not be constructed rather people will be forced to sell out their homes”.
He added, “By committing such a foolish act, how can the selected prime minster say five millions homes will be built?”
Pakistan’s external debt estimated at $130b by FY23
The PML-N leader observed that the prices of cement, lead, land, petrol, diesel and food items had already increased manifold and the government was now ‘adding fuel to the fire’.
He claimed that the government will not be able achieve the tax targets, “instead it was destroying the businesses of the people”. He said that such measures will further increase unemployment.
Protesting against the non-provision of home-cooked and restricted food to former premier Nawaz Sharif in prison, Shehbaz observed that the “fascist Nazi government will be responsible for any mishap caused to the ex-prime minster”.
He called on the authorities for providing safe food to Nawaz as per the advice of his physicians.
“Denying safe food to Nawaz Sharif in jail is a testimony of killer mindset typical of Imran Khan,” he alleged.
He claimed, “Time has proved that Imran Niazi is not only devoid of competence to lead the people, but also lacks courage to tolerate the criticism”.
