ISLAMABAD: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has undertaken an anti-encroachment operation from Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (EME) College to Tarnol on Peshawar Road (N-5).

All stablishments falling on the Right of Way (ROW) along National Highway were being cleared of encroachments. A number of shops, kiosks, bus bays and land encroached by the filling stations are currently being vacated.

However, measurement of land at dubious locations is under way and notices are being served to the encroachers to clear the land, said a press release issued on Friday.

The encroachment drive was undertaken on the special directives of  Federal Communications Minister Murad Saeed. It is pertinent to mention that NHA has launched this drive in collaboration with Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration and that officials of these departments are jointly participating in this drive. The objective of this anti encroachment drive is to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Kashmir Highway

CDA has accelerated clearing of debris from Kashmir Highway and started  tree plantation activities y at the site in collaboration with the Environment Wing of Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC).

The CDA chairman visited and examined the ongoing operation and supervised the same personally. It is pertinent to mention here that earlier, CDA through a public notice directed the owners of demolished properties to clear debris lying on the right of way of Kashmir Highway on their own.

After expiration of the deadline given to the former occupants regarding removal of demolished building material on Kashmir Highway G-12, CDA launched an operation to demolish and remove leftover structures from the area.
