Another injured by kite string in Lahore

Victim shifted to nearby hospital for further treatment

LAHORE: Another man was injured by a kite string in the provincial capital on Monday. The victim was identified as 25-year-old Zeeshan.

Reportedly, Zeeshan was headed home on a motorcycle when a kite string sliced his neck, injuring him in the process. The victim was shifted to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Police teams reached the scene after receiving information about the incident. Officials stated that they are currently investigating the matter.

DIG Operations Ashfaq Ahmed Khan took notice of the incident and directed all field officers to take strict action against kite flying. An official revealed that police arrested nine kite flyers on Sunday and seized kites and string from their possession.

Kite strings have caused many injuries and numerous deaths. Different governments have adopted a zero tolerance policy against kite flying. Despite this, such incidents continue to be reported in the provincial capital.

In April, 28-year-old Farhan was injured in Youhanabad. Two such incidents were also reported in Factory Area in the first week of February. Similarly, in January a man was killed Harbancepura. Another victim, identified as 40-year-old Noor Muhammad was injured.

In March last year, a 40-year-old man was killed after a kite string slit his throat. The deceased was identified as Shoaib Younas. Younas was on his way to work near Muslim Town Mor when the string slit his throat. Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene and shifted him to the Lahore Services Hospital where he breathed his last.

A week before this incident, a three-year-old girl Makrukh had her throat slit as she was returning home from school in Shera Kot. Her father and brother were also injured in the incident. Such incidents are not confined to Lahore; they have also been reported in several districts across Punjab.
