Skeletons in the closet: Man and sister hold on to dead saint’s body
Police arrested Mohammad Sharif and Rafiqa Parveen when they discovered a skeleton from their house.
KARACHI:
Police arrested a man Mohammad Sharif and his sister Rafiqa Parveen on Thursday when they discovered a skeleton from their house in Shah Faisal Colony.
A duty officer at the police station told The Express Tribune that the middle-aged man and woman said the remains were of their spiritual leader, Pir Syed Mubarak Ali Shah, who had died 30 years ago.
They said that when their pir died, they were in so much pain that they decided not to bury him, but keep him in their house, until they were able to put together enough money to establish a proper mausleoum for the dead saint.
The police have lodged a First Information Report, No. 216, and charged them under section 297 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with trespassing on burial places.
