Rawalpindi Rams through to final

Lahore knocked out of Faysal Bank Super Eight T20 Cup.

KARACHI:

Rawalpindi Rams stunned favourites Lahore Lions in a surprisingly one-sided encounter by 47 runs to storm into the final of the Faysal Bank Super Eight T20 Cup yesterday.

Chasing a formidable 187 for victory, Lahore never developed any momentum in their run-chase, losing their in-form openers Ahmed Shehzad and Nasir Jamshed early to leave the side in tatters at 12 for two.

Lahore captain Mohammad Yousuf made 35 and did his best to try and rescue his team but got no support from the other end. Some late blows from Adnan Rasool, who top-scored with 41, ensured Lahore escaped the ignominy of being bundled out for less than 100.
Spinner Raza Hasan was the pick of the bowlers with two for 21.

The foundation for the win was laid by a 111-run fourth-wicket partnership between Jamal Anwar and captain Sohail Tanvir, who belted Lahore’s attack to all parts of the park.

Anwar top-scored with 67, an innings that contained six boundaries and three maximums. Tanvir was equally severe on the hapless bowlers, racing to 60 of just 44 deliveries.

Hyderabad bundled out of tournament

Earlier, Lahore had overcome a blitz by Aqeel Anjum who hit a 16-ball 40 to beat Hyderabad Hawks by eight runs in the final Group A encounter that ensured Sialkot’s entry into the semi-finals.

Batting first, Lahore reached 160 courtesy a fine 78 by Ahmed Shehzad. Three-wicket hauls by Nasir Awais and Zahid Mahmood were the highlight for Hyderabad.

Chasing 161, Hyderabad’s reply never looked threatening with fast-bowler Aizaz Cheema picking up three for 18.
