A recent social media post pointed out the less than satisfactory arrangements for the bears that were directly exposed to the scorching sun. In addition to the lack of a shaded area for the bears, the post also highlighted that there was no food and water in sight for the animals. The green awning which was supposed to provide some protection from the sun was also long gone.
The post claimed that bears were also not being given regular showers. It added that when the issue was brought to the attention of the assistant director of the facility, he had asked for some time to make adequate arrangements. However, four months later the situation remained unchanged.
On Thursday, the minister inspected enclosures of animals and cleanliness situation at the park. Inspecting the bear cages, he appreciated the steps taken by the wildlife department regarding the food and facilities provided to the bears. Khan also issued instructions to improve the shades at the cages.
Preparations for installing a small pool are also under way. Lahore Zoo Director Hasan Ali Sukhera has been given the responsibility of carrying out the necessary construction at the bear enclosure.
During his visit, the minister also inquired about the animal’s diet warned staff that no negligence will be tolerated. “It is our responsibility to protect wildlife and keep the environment clean and green,” he said.
The minister said that providing affordable and quality enjoyment to the public is the government’s priority. “We will provide all resources to make the park a state-of-the-art recreational facility in the city.”
Khan assured that the government will take further steps bring more animals in the park.
