MULTAN:

The city celebrated the Independence Day with patriotic zeal and solidarity, reflecting national pride and passion on Thursday.

Multan echoed with patriotic slogans as flag-hoisting ceremonies were organised at the offices of the commissioner and deputy commissioner as well as other institutions.

Commissioner Aamir Kareem Khan and DC Waseem Hamid Sindhu led the main event, hoisting the national flag alongside City Police Office Sadiq Ali Dogar, local officials, political leaders and members of the civil society.

The event featured a ceremonial parade by police, Rescue 1122 and civil defence contingents, the release of balloons symbolising peace and the cutting of an Independence Day cake.

Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner said August 14 reminds the nation of sacrifices, struggle and the commitment to truth, urging citizens to renew their pledge to make Pakistan a beacon of peace, justice and development.

He praised the armed forces for safeguarding the nation since the attainment of independence, noting the recent victory as a moment of renewed national resolve.

Deputy Commissioner Sindhu emphasised that the day was a call to refresh the spirit of faith, unity and sacrifice, and to honour the martyrs and veterans who had defended Pakistan's sovereignty.

In a gesture of compassion, district administration officials celebrated Independence Day with patients in the Children's Hospital and orphans at the Child Protection Bureau, distributing sweets and gifts, cutting cakes and joining in performances by the children.

The DC pledged continued support for orphan and abandoned children and the provision of all necessary facilities for their well-being.

A ceremony hosted by the Pakistan Baitul Mal South Punjab Regional Office brought together staff from PBM projects in Multan, Muzaffargarh, and Khanewal, alongside children from the Schools of the Rehabilitation of Child Labour.

On the occasion, former vice chancellor of Bahauddin Zakariya University Dr Tariq Mehmood Ansari emphasised the importance of knowledge, discipline and patriotism as pillars of national progress. He paid tribute to Pakistan Army, underscoring its unwavering commitment to national security.
