Zardari, PM Shehbaz hail Blue Helmets' sacrifices

On the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers 2026, Pakistan on Friday paid rich tribute to the invaluable contributions and ultimate sacrifices rendered by the "Blue Helmets" for the sacred cause of global peace.

Pakistan's association with the United Nations peacekeeping transcends six decades, reflecting our steadfast commitment to international peace. Since 1960, over 2,37,000 Pakistani peacekeepers have served on UN missions worldwide, while 183 brave Pakistanis gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives in service to UN peacekeeping efforts.

President Asif Ali Zardari paid tribute to United Nations peacekeepers serving across the world, praising their dedication, professionalism and sacrifices.

In his message issued here by the Presidency, President Zardari said Pakistan joined the international community in honouring UN peacekeepers working in difficult and dangerous conditions to maintain global peace and security.

The president paid special tribute to the 183 Pakistani peacekeepers who lost their lives while serving under the UN flag, describing their sacrifices as a symbol of Pakistan's enduring commitment to international peace.

Highlighting Pakistan's longstanding role in UN peacekeeping missions, President Zardari said the country had remained among the leading troop-contributing nations for more than six decades. He noted that over 270,000 Pakistani peacekeepers had served with distinction in 48 United Nations missions across four continents.

He also acknowledged the growing contribution of Pakistani women peacekeepers in UN operations, saying their role reflected Pakistan's commitment to the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter.

PM Shehbaz said Pakistan reiterated its steadfast commitment to further strengthening global peace efforts through active participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions.

In his message, he said, "Our continued contribution reflects Pakistan's enduring commitment to international peace and security, as well as to the principles of multilateralism."

He said, "Today, Pakistan joins the international community in paying rich tribute to the brave men and women serving under the United Nations flag on the occasion of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers."

"Observed annually across the world, this day recognizes the invaluable services and sacrifices rendered by military, police, and civilian peacekeepers deployed in conflict-affected regions in pursuit of global peace and security," he added.

He said, "This year's observance is being commemorated under the theme, 'Invest in Peace', which underscores the critical importance of sustained political commitment and financial support for the promotion of durable peace and the protection of human lives worldwide."
