Soomro family protests against the abduction of their girl

SUKKUR:

Members of the Soomro clan staged a sit-in outside the DPO’s office in Mirpur Mathelo, to protest against the kidnapping of Husna Soomro from Ali Mahar village, in Ghotki, five days ago.

The family, led by Ghulam Mohammad Soomro, Imam Bux Soomro and Mai Nooran Soomro, shouted slogans against the police, which according to them, was not doing enough to rescue the girl. Six armed men, including Chuttal Soomro and constable Khuda Bux Soomro, broke into the house of Mehrab Soomro and held the family hostage. They kidnapped Husna, 17, and fled, according to Mai Nooran, Husna’s elder sister. An FIR at Ghotki police station was registered against the six men but no arrest has been made so far.

Husna’s brother Ghulam Mohammad Soomro said that the conflict began when a girl named Mai Bhagul, 18, the daughter of Mohammad Ilyas Soomro, eloped with Jamal Din Soomro on the same day Husna was kidnapped. Since Jamal Din is a close relative, men from Mohammad Ilyas’s family raided their house and kidnapped his sister.

The family says that they have nothing to do with the elopement of Mai Bhagul. The Ghotki DPO was not present in the office, hence they dispersed.
