RAWALPINDI: The government should introduce reforms under community policing apart from improving the financial condition of cops as soon as possible to curb corruption in police stations.

This was suggested by Sustainable Social Development Organisation (SSDO) Director Syed Kausar Abbas. Speaking to journalists, he said that community policing will greatly help eradicate crime and increase the public’s trust in the police department.

He further lamented that while police reforms should be a part of the government’s priorities, steps taken in this regard have yet to be witnessed.

Abbas added that the community policing model has proven to be successful throughout the world, but it has yet to be applied in Pakistan.

He urged the Punjab government to prioritise community policing under its police reforms agenda so that police’s performance can be improved.

Abbas further emphasised that the investigation officers should be provided with adequate funds for conducting their investigations smoothly and without putting any burden on plaintiffs.
