Five killed in Nato container accident

Container slipped off when vehicle was taking a sharp turn, crushing two cars and a passenger van.

KHYBER AGENCY:

Five people were killed and another 11 injured when a Nato container flipped on its side crushing three vehicles on the Pak Afghan highway in the Khyber Agency on Wednesday.


The incident happened at the segment of the highway which is under construction. The container, which is usually placed on top of a lorry, slipped off when the vehicle was taking a sharp turn and crushing two cars and a passenger van.


Rescue teams and locals reached the spot immediately and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital.


Authorities feared that more people could be trapped under the carnage.

maXime maXimilien | 12 years ago | Reply En route to Afghanistan form Karachi, these NATO containers, at times, serve as minor 'drones' on innocent Pakistani commuters. If Pakistani government can't stop this lethal transportation which is in stark violation of IMO regulations in the absence of secure container transportation measures, then the officials should, at least, press the owners of such containers to compensate the victimized families.
