Weather to remain hot on Eid in Karachi

Met office rules out possibility of heat wave in June

KARACHI: The Meteorological Depart-ment has dispelled rumours of this Eidul Fitr being the hottest in 20 years. They did, however, confirm that temperatures will remain high this week. Mercury may go as high as  40 degrees Celsius on the first two days of Eid, but a heat wave is unlikely, said the MET office on Monday. The weather is expected to be cloudy after June 15.

According to Chief Meteorologist Abdul Rasheed, Karachiites will celebrate Eid in extremely hot weather this year but there is no truth to the rumours that it would be the hottest Eid in 20 years.

Temperature is expected to remain between 38 to 40 degree Celsius on the first two days of Eid and the third day is expected to be slightly cooler at 36-37 degrees Celsius.

There is no chance of a heat wave during the Eid holiday, he said, adding that the MET office did not foresee a heat wave in the entire month of June. Instead, he said, the city will witness cloudy skies and may experience light showers and drizzles.

Regardless, health experts have advised people to stay hydrated and wear lightweight clothes. They warn against leaving the house unnecessarily during the day in the summer.

As per the MET department, mercury was recorded at 35.8 degrees Celsius on Monday with 62% humidity.

The minimum temperature recorded was 28 degrees Celsius and winds coming from the south western region blew at the speed of 30 kilometres per hour. Today (Tuesday), Karachi is expected to experience mist and moist winds.
