Apple may add a dual Bluetooth connection feature to future iPhones

With wireless audio slowly becoming more and more prevalent as the norm for phones and tablets, some devices have gained the ability to send audio signals to two separate Bluetooth devices at once. The addition of this feature to some Samsung phones has sparked rumours that Apple may follow suit, according to Japanese blog Mac Otakara.



The addition of this feature could be helpful in a variety of ways. You might want to connect your phone to your car’s audio system to give GPS instructions while simultaneously playing music through earphones, for example, or, you and a friend might want to watch a film together. Being able to connect to multiple sets of headphones would allow you both to enjoy the full audio experience without a headphone jack splitter.

This feature is available on a handful of Samsung devices, requiring Bluetooth 5.0 to operate. MacRumours highlights that, if Apple is to inculcate this feature in the same way, it could work on older iPhone models that support Bluetooth 5.0 (including iPhone 8, iPhone X, and iPhone XS) via a software update.

However, the sourcing of the rumour isn’t very reliable. Mac Otakara cites a supply chain source but doesn’t say which iPhone model might be getting the feature.
