YouTube’s standalone gaming app will be shutting down on May 30. The inevitable shut down was announced by YouTube last year, due to “confusion” the spin-off caused among fans. The service has been included in the main YouTube app instead, with the addition of a game-focused hub that has mainly already replaced the old YouTube Gaming.

YouTube directs any remaining YouTube Gaming users to the newer hub from a help page. In addition, YouTube and YouTube Gaming subscriptions have been merged. However, people will reportedly lose the list of games they have saved.
“We launched YouTube Gaming as a standalone app for gamers where we tested out new features based on the gaming community’s feedback. We want to continue to build a stronger home for the gaming community that thrives on YouTube,” the page states.

When YouTube Gaming initially launched in 2015, it was promoted as a method of improving live stream experience and along gaming fans to avoid irrelevant content, in addition to being used to experiment with features like channel memberships and dark mode.
According to YouTube, the majority of users still utilised the main app to watch gaming videos and saw YouTube Gaming as redundant or purposeless. Its best features later came to the premium platform, where many more people could enjoy them.
