May 28 is an unforgettable day in the history of Pakistan, said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif on the eve of 21th Youm-e-Takbeer – the  day when the country became a nuclear power.

"On this day the defence of the country was made invincible when Pakistan emerged on the world map as a nuclear power,” the PML-N official Twitter handle quoting incarcerated former prime minister as saying.

On May 28, 1998 Pakistan became a nuclear power after it successfully carried out five nuclear tests at Chaghi, in the province of Balochistan during the tenure of the then prime minister Shairf.

“Youm-e-Takbeer is a day of nation’s honour. When the day is a sign of nation’s unprecedented valiantness and bravery, it also gives a message to the country’s enemies that there would be dire consequences in case of any misadventure against Pakistan,” he added.

The PML-N chief also claimed in a statement released from Lahore's Lakhpat Jail that external forces hatched conspiracies against him for making the country an economic power in the shape of CPEC due to which he was being punished.

An accountability court in December last year sentenced the former prime minister to seven-year rigorous imprisonment after it found him guilty in Al-Azizia reference.

"In the solitary confinement, I assure the nation that I had never compromised on the constitutional rights of the people, people’s right to vote and country’s security and sovereignty" the three-time former premier said.

According to sources, PML-N vice-presidents Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz will chair the Youm-e-Takbeer ceremony in Lahore on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, other leaders including party's Senior Vice President Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will participate in the event to be held at Peshawar.

Sophie | 5 years ago | Reply Nukes don't make anyone invincible - both Pakistan/India have gone to war since they acquired nukes ... same goes for the American's, Brits, French, Russia, China etc.
