Officials were given six months to plant 26,000 saplings Bhakkar district
DARYA KHAN:
More than 19,000 saplings have been planted in government schools at all four tehsils of Bhakkar district under the Clean and Green Pakistan campaign.
Bhakkar Education CEO Mian Mohammad Riaz told The Express Tribune that the target was to plant 26,000 saplings by May 2019. So far, around 19,000 saplings have been planted at government schools.
“We will not be able to complete 100% of the target we had set our sights on,” explained Riaz. There are 1,261 schools in the district. Of these, there are 933 primary schools, of which 430 are boys’ schools while 503 are girls’ schools. In addition, there are 203 elementary schools while 98 are for boys and 105 are for girls.
The target was to plant 15 saplings in each government primary school, 25 in each government elementary school, 35 in each government high school and 35 in each government higher secondary school. These saplings have been planted in schools located in all four tehsils of Bhakkar, including Darya Khan, Mankera, Kallar Kot and Bhakkar.
Riaz said that the deputy district education officers of all tehsils were given the responsibility for planting saplings at each government school located in their tehsil.
Deputy Education Officer Rehana Jabeen said that they were directed by Bhakkar Deputy Commissioner Captain Waqas Rasheed that the plantation drive at government schools in Darya Khan should be completed within six months. More than 2,000 saplings have been planted in the government schools of Darya Khan tehsil. This task was divided into two phases. There are total 137 schools in Darya Khan out of which 120 are government girls’ primary schools and 17 government girls’ elementary schools.
Three-month tree plantation drive begins
Assistant Education officer Quratulain Arif said that the Clean and Green Pakistan campaign is a good project. “We as Pakistanis have a responsibility to plant trees and keep the environment clean. Moreover, our responsibility is not only limited to planting trees but also includes maintaining it to ensure better cultivation of trees. I have directed staff members to take care of the plants.”
Talking to The Express Tribune, another Assistant Education Officer Anum Bashir said apart from planting saplings, the students were also informed about the importance of trees and greenery in human life. Trees also improve the beauty of the schools, she said.
