PESHAWAR: The provincial government has decided to base their provincial finance commission around the three key points of population, poverty and lack of infrastructure in any district in order to provide equal chances of development across the province.

The modalities of the commission and its award are expected to be finalised during a meeting in Peshawar with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra and the K-P Local Government Minister Shahram Khan Tarakai, leader of the opposition in the K-P assembly and K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan.

For the financial year 2019-20, the K-P government has decided to persist with last year’s provincial finance commission formulas, through which 60 per cent of resources will be distributed amongst the province on the basis of population.

A further 20 per cent will be distributed on the basis of poverty while the last 20 per cent will go to districts to shore up the lack of infrastructure there.
