The post of vice-chancellor fell vacant after the death of Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan, recently. After his death, in the absence of an acting vice-chancellor, KU's Acting Registrar Muhammad Sohail had taken over the responsibility to deal with day-to-day affairs at the university.
Dr Iraqi's name was recommended for the university's acting vice-chancellor by the Department of Universities and Boards and his appointment was approved by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, who is the controlling authority of universities in the province.
Steeped in tradition, KU looks to an even brighter future
Dr Iraqi is a PhD in Public Administration and was serving as the chairman of Department of Public Administration at KU until his appointment as the acting vice-chancellor.
He began his teaching career as a cooperative lecturer in 1989 and moved on to serve as a professor at KU in 2009. Besides teaching at KU, he has also been a visiting faculty at various universities including Hamdard University, University of Balochistan, University of Management and Technology, University of Sindh and NED University of Engineering and Technology.
Dr Iraqi also held various administrative positions at KU and has to his credit the authorship of as many as 40 research papers and articles. Additionally, he has also co-authored a book.
Apart from Dr Iraqi, the Department of Universities and Boards had suggested the names of five other professors for the post, in a summary sent to CM Shah by the Department of Universities and Boards Secretary Muhammad Riazuddin. These included Dr Tabassum Mehboob, Dr Faseehuddin Ansari, Dr Arshad Azami, Dr Jameel Kazmi and Dr Iqbal Choudhry.
