LAHORE: The 70-year long history of Alhamra Arts Council will be immortalised in a directory which will list the details of all artists, singers and poets associated with the centre.

A meeting, presided over by Alhamra Arts Council Executive Director Ather Ali Khan, was held recently. During the meeting, participants gave the executive director various suggestions.

Keeping the suggestions in view, it was decided that the names, phone numbers, addresses and photos of all artists associated with the council will be published in the directory. Further, the directory will also be available online at Alhamra’s website.

During the meeting, it was decided that Zulfiqar Ali Zulfi will head the standing committee formed to publish the directory. Further, the executive director instructed that progress on the project should speed up. He stated that a committee has been formed to collect the content for the directory and the body will present their report in the next two weeks.

He maintained that the purpose of publishing a directory is to facilitate communication between citizens and artists. He added that assistance will be taken from personalities involved in the centre’s illustrious 70-year long history.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Khan said that Alhamra Arts Council plays an important role in Pakistan’s art and culture scene. “Many writers, artists, painters, directors and producers associated with the organisation have achieved great things,” he said. Through their work, they have made the entire country proud, he added.

Alhamra will continue to support the arts. Many up and coming young artists are reaping the benefits of this organisation. That is why we have initiated work on compiling a directory, he explained. “Similar directories have been compiled across the world. Hopefully, when the project is completed people will be able to meet and learn about those they look up to.”
