Interviews of 61 applicants conclude

ISLAMABAD: Interviews for the first vice chancellor of Pakistan’s first National Skills University (NSU) in Islamabad completed.

Despite giving advertisement twice and completion of the whole process vice chancellor for the university has yet to be appointed yet.

After completing the final interview of 10 finalised candidates of 61 applicants the final list is with education  minister and summary of finalised candidates has not been sent to Prime Minister Imran Khan for approval.

However sources have claimed that before eid-ul-fitr NSU first vice chancellor will be appointed.

According to details, in previous government tenure due to non-appointment of vice chancellor of Pakistan’s first skill university made through an Act in place of National Institute of Science and Technical Education (NIST) by federal minister Ahsan Iqbal the newly born university was encircled by numerous issues even without becoming functional.

After the current government came to rule education ministry cancelling the advertisement given by previous government for vice chancellor’s appointment again issued an advertisement on which 61 renowned educationists from all over country submitted applications of which 10 candidates were shortlisted for interviews however even after completion of interview last month the final summary based on three names hasn’t been sent to PM.

Due to non-appointment of VC, employees of NIST continue service and other employees have become suspicious because the threat of closure of their salary IDs is looming.

Sources say that in this first skills university the students will be trained as per the market needs and diplomas, degree, certificates courses will be offered.

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Education and Professional Trainings had approved establishing Pakistan’s first-ever National Skills University in 2017.

According to the National Skills University Bill, the university will establish its campuses, to be determined by its senate. A vice chancellor will head the university while an academic council will determine the courses.

The faculties will include building technology and environment; electro-technology; mechanical and automotive technology; industries and business; computing and information technology; management and communication studies; basic sciences and humanities and teacher education.
