KARACHI: As many as 15 out of 191 violators of official price lists of food items were arrested and jailed by assistant commissioners and Mukhtiarkars across the city, on Saturday.

The arrested included six fruit sellers, five sellers of grocery items, three meat sellers and a seller of bakery items.

As a part of the campaign against profiteers, initiated by the city administration, Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani has directed all relevant officials to show no leniency towards price list violators and take strict action against them, as defined by the law.

He has also asked the consumers to check price lists provided by the city administration to the vendors, so that they may not pay in excess.

A helpline has also been set up on his directives for the consumers to register their complaints regarding excess pricing on 021-99205634.
