ISLAMABAD: PML-N central spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb has termed Prime Minister Imran Khan “a pathological and compulsive liar”, saying the nation is currently in crisis because of “incompetent” and “ineligible” rulers like him.

According to a statement issued by the PML-N Secretariat, Marriyum said instead of his usual rant of false promises and incessant lying, the prime minister should have fulfilled his constitutional obligation and informed the people of Pakistan about the International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions he had “bowed” to.

Responding to the prime minister’s speech in Rawalpindi earlier in the day, Marriyum said Imran should have told the nation that due to his sheer incompetence, the country’s inflation had tripled while its growth rate halved in just nine months of his “disastrous rule”.

The former information minister alleged that Imran’s administration had agreed to the worst conditions imposed by the IMF in the history of the country, terming it an inability of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led (PTI) government to negotiate a better deal.

In a reference to the appointment of the IMF’s Dr Reza Baqir as the new State Bank of Pakistan governor, she charged that Imran’s “utter incompetence” had led to the surrender of the country’s economic sovereignty to the IMF as he had appointed the global lender’s representative to negotiate a deal for Pakistan.

Instead, Marriyum said, Imran should have admitted that he and his administration were “thieves busy in looting the country” which was why the people did not trust him enough to pay taxes, adding that this distrust and “looting instinct” of Imran and his government were the reasons why Pakistan had to knock on the IMF’s door.

“Imran should have told Pakistanis in his speech that he was burying Pakistan under Rs16 billion worth of loans every single day,” she added.
