Travellers enjoy free Iftari at Torkham

LANDI KOTAL: Khyber district police and district administration officials, true to their tradition of hospitality, are providing free Iftaris to travellers from Afghanistan.

People of all sorts, Afghans, locals, transporters, passengers rich and poor are offered Iftari at Torkham border, officials said.

Afghan nationals, local passengers, and transporters on the border post of Torkham-Pak-Afghan international border, while border management have enhance crossing times on the border.

Khyber District Commis­sioner Mahmood Aslam and Jamrud AC Saleem Jan Marwat have sponsored free Iftari for Afghan nationals at Bugyari check-post.

However, the newly extended police force from the day Ramazan began stops every person at its check-point near border and insists on having Iftari.

“As goodwill gesture towards our Afghan brothers and locals, we have set a free Iftar treat to all, for male we have set a place for them, while looking to local norms and traditions, we have set a separate place for women in the post” DC Mahmood Aslam told The Express Tribune.

“We normally entertain 100 to 150 passengers at the check-post and provide best services to the Afghans and locals, while with consultation we have enhanced the border crossing times till 9pm,” he stated.

The Iftari don’t restrict to the fasting passengers, we provide services and meals to the patients from across the border, while kids and women are preferably treated, DC stated.

This is not the first time that district administration have took the initiatives to offer free iftar to the Afghans and local at the border post, while they timing of the border crossing is also amongst the measures taken by the district administration, DC Mahmood Aslam stated.
