Riyadh, Islamabad discuss plans for executive programme on culture and media cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia on Thursday expressed its keenness to set up a cultural centre in the federal capital in order to strengthen the cultural collaboration between Islamabad and Riyadh.

This was disclosed by Saudi Arabia Ambassador Nawaf Saeed Ahmad Al-Malki during a meeting with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Thursday.

Al-Malki added that Saudi Arabia was also looking forward to hiring skilled labour from Pakistan with regards to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman’s vision 2030.

“Pak-Saudi relationship is not confined to the governments, rather it represents a people-to-people bonhomie,” he added.

Awan welcomed the Saudi desire to set up the cultural centre apart from enhancing relations people-to-people ties. She assured envoy of her full assistance in this regard.

She added that Pakistan has enjoyed warm relations with Saudi Arabia since 1947 as this relationship is rooted in the centuries-old religious, cultural and commercial links between the two peoples.

Dr Awan noted that the recent visit of Saudi Crown Prince to Pakistan was of immense importance as both countries inked agreements to further solidify economic cooperation and strengthen their strategic partnership.

She said that Pakistan has always received generous economic and financial assistance from Saudi Arabia, in times of crises.

Both sides also discussed an executive programme for culture and media cooperation between the two countries and decided to work out a calendar of cultural activities.
